Whatever your level...

Now, whether you’re a complete beginner, an intermediate, a pro, or even if you’ve taken up the trumpet again after a long break, and you’re a comeback player, you practice away, and you can see steady improvements in your technique, your scales, and the songs you play, right? But, have you ever noticed that no matter what you do, the SOUND, endurance, and UPPER REGISTER  you get doesn’t improve at the same rate? You continue to struggle, and there always seems to be this HUGE difference between your thin sound, your upper register, and the warm, rich tone that pros get in all registers?

but when things still don’t improve much, you might start thinking that you’ll NEVER be able to get a full, rounded sound in or out of the upper register and that it’s some superhuman feat that only pros or someone with certain physical traits can achieve. Or, even worse, you’ll decide that your set up is the culprit, and once you buy a shiny new mouthpiece, or Trumpet, your shiny new tone will come with it, along with a better upper register.

Well, I’ve got some good news and some bad news for you and BOTH of these truth bombs are going to change your life.

OK, let’s get the bad news out of the way first. Fasten your seatbelt for this one - you won’t find your sound in ANY new mouthpiece, or trumpet, no matter HOW expensive it is, or WHAT the manufacturer is promising. 

And if you don’t believe me, I’ll prove it in five seconds by playing YOUR trumpet. And if you STILL don’t believe me, try playing MY trumpet and see how you sound. 

Sure, your equipment will make a BIT of a difference and it might FEEL different at first, I’ll give you that, but after a while, if you’re really honest with yourself, you’ll realize that it hasn’t transformed your tone. In fact, you’ll probably still have shrill sounding High notes, your tone will be uneven across all registers, and you’ll still struggle to get the low notes out reliably. And that’s such a bummer, right? But, before you get all depressed about it, let’s have some of the GOOD news...
